Pyrites--Spring Term 2017 Happy New Year
Another busy term is in store for the Pyrite class. I am pleased with the progress the children are making but the hard work needs to continue.
In maths, we are going to be recapping our place value skills, plenty of fractions, decimals and percentages, area and perimeter and will practice our reasoning skills. Remember The Khan Academy website is a great way to consolidate learning and practice skills.
Most of our work in literacy will be linked to our topic. We will be writing a Greek styled Myth and Legend story, continue our SPAG learning and we will be entering a poetry competition.
The Year 6 children will be preparing for the SATs by completing some past papers. This is a good way to get the children used to the style of questions and to build their confidence.
Our topic this half term is Ancient and Modern Greece. We will be exploring the Greek civilisation and how it influenced many aspects of our lives. We will also be looking into modern day Greece, its culture and geographical characteristics.
This half term, we will be focussing on Christianity, using various artwork as a stimulus for in depth, spiritual dialogue.
This half term, The Pyrites will have swimming every Friday afternoon; please ensure your child has their swimming kit in school. PE will be every Wednesday but please ensure your child has their PE kit in every day as we will have a few extra PE lessons. Ben Taylor and I are planning on running a multi-sports club for children in Year 5 or 6. More details will be sent out next week.
We are hoping the weather will be kind to us this half term! Outdoor Learning will usually be on a Thursday and we will continue to use the fantastic, natural resources in and around Lyme to enhance our learning in all subjects across the curriculum.
I believe this will be another productive term for The Pyrites. Please contact the office or see me at the end of the day if you want to discuss anything about your child’s learning or any aspect of their school life. I want to continue to work with you to give your child the best opportunities and experiences during their time at St Michael’s Primary.
